Very comprehensive, unlike most news items I read, thanks.

Great journalism. Takes pieces like this to have any hope at all of reforming the system. The truth is lucky to have you in its corner. Thank you.

Thanks so much. The truth is infuriating when it comes to ADOC. But it's also a fantastic disinfectant.

Thank you. The same could happen here in GA. Building a mega-prison will never solve the issues you described, IMO. But GDC has broken ground here for a mega-prison that it will not be able to staff.

WHAT? I didn't know GA was planning a mega-prison. Thank you for the info. This is such an epically bad plan.

Yes. Since GDC has the same attorneys as ADOC, they are following the same game plan. Or as Governor Ivey described it, "An Alabama solution for an Alabama problem." GDC has broken ground in Washington County GA, adjacent to the existing facility that they cannot staff. The adjacent counties also have grossly understaffed prisons. (Corrections officer vacancies are >60% throughout the system, with 12 of the most dangerous facilities having CO vacancies >70%. There are 34 state prisons. Unlike ADOC, they are not overcrowded; they are understaffed. Typically, the 12 most understaffed facilities have 4 - 6 officers, and often less, for ~1500 incarcerated people, many of whom are close security. Affiliation rate according to GDC runs 33%. Anecdotally, it is >50%.

I would love to talk to you more about what's going on in Georgia, Susan!

Heck, yeah! I think we are both fighting the same demons, in adjacent states. I am pretty easy to reach. crb5232858@gmail.com

He should never still been employed in 2021! Should have been terminated when he made the assaults that got him dropped from the CERT team. As to the case that was finally prosecuted, he should have received 30 years strictly on the "Abuse of Power". SMH

That Judge needs voted out because he basically says it’s ok and didn’t give the victim a second thought! This is what is wrong in Alabama prisons now, still no accountability!

Exactly! I thought it was very revealing to Jenkins' true psychopathy when he failed to mention his victims in his "tearful" apology.
