Reading this work might make one vulnerable to understanding a population we often choose to overlook.

Is there any better reason to pick up a copy?

Thank you for sharing this. Such a tragedy and so heartbreaking. The thought of someone dying with two middle fingers in the air makes me feel sad -- so much anger in his final moments. I am going to get the book, thank you for recommending it... and for all the amazing work you do to shed light on these human injustices. 🙏🏼

Thanks Claire. I think you'll appreciate the book. You are right—Torrey McNabb's final moments say so much about the anguish capital punishment causes for everyone involved, particularly the person who is killed.

Beth! I’m so glad you shared these works. I will read both.

When I was first married (and super young), my then father-in-law took us to tour the now empty prison where he “grew up.” His father was warden, and one person in custody was his babysitter. When we got to the room with the electric chair, I fought a wave of nausea and got out as quickly as I can.

I very much appreciate the work you’re doing.

WOAH. Was this in Alabama? OMG the story you have to tell!

No. It was West Virginia. Right? I wish I would have thought to record my former FIL's story before he died. But he has, sadly, passed, and we were rarely in touch after my divorce and move to the other side of the country a couple of decades back.

P.S. I told you about the interview I'm doing on a program taking planting / reforestation program opportunities into prisons. You asked if it was state or federal prisons. It's both. That story's on the roster soon-ish. I plan editorial calendars way in advance. But I'll for sure tag you when I post it or, per chance, write about my long ago prison visit.

Oh, awesome! I can't wait to read it. Also impressed that you plan editorial calendars in advance. I am, shall we say, quite challenged in that arena. (unofficially but fairly certain I have ADHD)

Oh man, I kind of geek out on big-picture stuff. It may be a little over the top.
