What a treasure trove. It is so impressive. The bigger box that contains all of these separate things is our criminal justice system, based on punishment. When we get enlightened, we'll base it on rehabilitation, and that will change every aspect that you've presented. We even have a model to go by and it's puzzling how this already proven improvement on what we do is ignored. No doubt because it works with the fundamentals of a world that needs to shift from personal aggrandizement to where we care about each other as much as we care about ourselves. That's the HUGE system change we desperately need.

Suzanne, I finally had a chance to read this fantastic piece and with your permission, I'd love to republish it on Moth to Flame with you as a guest writer. Not enough is said about the ideas you write about. Alabama is such a disaster right now, it's hard to have a substantive conversation about the record deaths, violence and despair. We're a long way off from a rehabilitative model, but I'd like to amplify your piece to my subscribers- some are judges, lawyers and legislators.

Wonderful!

Another category there's little attention on is solitary confinement. What inhumane torture that is!

My understanding of the use of the opioid settlement was to help addicts, not Hand it out to schools or anything else. You know the ones that got addicted by prescription opioids which spiraled from there! People don’t understand that addiction is a disease just like diabetes, heart disease, and other diseases. It’s sad that people are so quick to judge but no quick to help and this is what’s wrong with society! They need God in their life and he will change their hearts and minds forever!

Not only is our prison system, that's focused on punishment, where prisoners get hardened instead of rehabilitated, so detrimental to the greater good, but there's also the financial corruption that we pay for in taxes!
