Couple this with her refusal to expand Medicaid, and I think we know all we need to know about Ms. Ivey. The even sadder truth, as you point out, is that she is by no means an outlier. I was born in the Hillman Hospital in Birmingham in 1945. Name a governor in all the time from there to now who is worthy of respect.
Albert Brewer had that potential. I’m not coming up with another name.
Thank you for your courage, knowledge and caring for the good people of Alabama who are adversely affected by our corrupt prison system. So few people know how evil it can be.
I feel like you can hear my thoughts. I saw her years ago state” I nelieve the victims, but I will vote with my party”. Who needs to hear anything else?! That translates into not caring about pain, suffering or even life. Just political and financial gain. She won’t take federal earmarked money for Medicaid but will sneak it through the back door yo spend on a prison. Alabama, think about what we could have gotten with this money even if you don’t care about the humans involved. Disgraceful. Again.
Beth you told the truth and nothing but the truth! Her name on a prison reminds me of all the violence, deaths, rapes and beatings that she has upheld all these years and the evil ones called her staff from the bottom of ADOC to the top and all local law enforcement and judicial system that takes part in their greed. I’ll never forget what they would not do for my son causing his death and over a thousand of others the last 4 years . They all will be held accountable one day also. Maybe the good Lord will have a storm blow through that new prison before it can be opened and the destroying Angel flatten it, anything’s possible with God. One can only pray for God’s will! Again Thank you for all that you do! You are a blessing and an Angel!
This needs to be read by Everybody.
Thank you Beth Shelburne for your courage!
Wonderful article, Beth. Thank you.
Ol’ Gubner Meemaw doing the Lawd’s work. I wish I could say they don’t make them any worse than her, but um…
This is a hell of a read, though. Thank you for doing what you do and holding her accountable.

Incredible article! I wish every Alabamian could read this article and reflect. Your words were powerfully stated.

She and all the lawmakers are evil cowards.

It’s so ironic, it’s bizarre.
