Would love to hear about what citizens can do to assist with those incarcerated, incarcerated unjustly, and those newly released from incarceration.

These are some of the most common questions I get! Thank you for naming this. I am planning an upcoming newsletter that includes many options on how people can help and organizations they can support. TY!

Just remembered another topic: Bail for those who get misdemeanors but sit in jail for months sometimes because they can't afford the small amount, or those who have bail costs that don't match the crime.

Thank you. BTW, your grandmother taught my spouse at West End High School, and she was a favorite of his.

Dear Beth, I’m one of those new subscribers who took a peak at your newsletter and was mightily grateful and impressed with the work you’re doing. I subscribed because your subject is a crucial matter of human dignity and you write with love. I would read personal profiles with most interest, but the reporting on specific politicians, speeches, statistics, etc. is also vital. In short, just keep doing what you’re doing. May it change the world.

I'm just glad that more folks are going to be able to see your great reporting. I think you are already covering a space which there is very little coverage. And the others who do cover it don't bring the humanity to it that you do. Please keep on with the great work. Thanks

Highlight some of the folks attempting to do work in prisons here. And then help connect more citizens to those folks. We should all want books to be in ALL prisons in Alabama...but they are only allowed in women's I believe. Otherwise, keep doing the work you're doing. You're shining a light on an important topic!

Yes, please! We need to know who is making a difference in prisons and by all means books should be available to all and literacy programs could help, too.

In addition to the great topics others are suggesting, privatized prisons and their connection to state politics, as well as the country's longstanding obsession with punishment/incarceration as a cure (both of which I know you already include in your reporting) need to be a part of the big picture coverage. As stated, you already cover these topics, so I guess this is just a pat on the back rather than a suggestion. However, since you are very familiar with the damage caused by these issues, it would certainly help for you to give us some specific info as to how we can push back from the grass roots level. Thanks!
