We need you in Montgomery on March 7
Why the event is your best way to help Alabama's prison crisis
One of the most common questions I get from people about Alabama’s deadly & corrupt prisons is “How can I help?” Often I point them to advocacy organizations and tell them to sign up for action alerts. But now I have something solid to offer.
This is a huge action alert. Mark you calendar, do what you can to be there.
On March 7 from 4pm-7pm, people who care about the terrible death toll, abuse, corruption, violence, suicides, drug trafficking, overdoses and cruelty inside the Alabama Department of Corrections (ADOC) will have a chance to come together, honor the lives lost and make their voices heard to state leaders.
This event is scheduled to coincide with Governor Kay Ivey’s “State of the State Address,” which will likely perpetuate the lie that her new billion dollar mega-prisons will solve the problems of the pesky Feds breathing down our necks to stop the bloodshed inside ADOC.
We know this is a lie and we reject it. If you reject it too, please join us at this event. I am thrilled to be a part of this much-needed remembrance, but also glad that organizers have created a space where the people of Alabama can speak truth to power, that we believe a prison sentence should not be a death sentence.
